United by our close friendships and determination to explore and evidence the unknown, we have all experienced something, both personally and collectively, that we cannot find a current explanation for. While exploring innovative ways to fund our research visits, we had the idea of developing a ghost walk for Dumfries. With our existing passion for ghost stories and local studies combined with a desire to promote tourism and culture in the region, it seemed like a natural progression.
Our philosophy is that a good story well told needs little in the way of artistic license; each event takes months of careful research to create a truly authentic experience. So how did our project come about? In October , we submitted a ghost story appeal to the local newspapers. By this time, the decision was made to create a paranormal team. We feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to conduct investigations all over the region and beyond including; Mount Sydney Inn, Dumfries, Carnsalloch House, Kirkton, Brougham Hall in Penrith and the nerve-shredding Pittenweem Clock Tower.
Our investigation formats have always been kept simple and straightforward, incorporating a range of modern and traditional methods that are less prone to environmental influences. We pride ourselves in keeping an informed, open mind and not becoming overwhelmed with gimmicks and gadgets. We recognise the importance of eliminating as many physical, psychological and environmental factors as possible before drawing a conclusion and liaise closely with experts in their respective fields who are an invaluable source of knowledge and support.
Keeping people informed about our work is a big team priority which achieved through talks, presentations, social and conventional media and of course, our fantastic website.

The distinctive tower of Kirkbean Parish Church viewed among the trees. Travellers along this scenic road, on seeing a collection of attractive cottages, can quite easily miss the main part of the village which flanks a minor road signposted Carsethorn and continue straight on, either to Dalbeattie or Dumfries, depending on which direction you’re travelling.
We would recommend, therefore, that you bide a while and enjoy a pleasant walk around the village and then, make your way along the narrow unclassified road to the coastal village of Carsethorn about a mile further on to enjoy refreshments at the popular Steamboat Inn. Alternatively, you can stay in Kirkbean and enjoy an afternoon tea or dinner at the four-star hotel and restaurant, The Cavens.

After the removal of willow trees and landscaping of the immediate area of the eastern bank of the loch side, excavation by volunteers in the SE quadrant of the feature revealed evidence of the doorway of a stone-founded building. Part of the N wall was revealed, and to the S of it a cobbled floor was uncovered. Set into this were a number of post-holes. Underneath was an earlier mud-packed floor level. Evidence of a large pit was uncovered in the NE comer of the structure, but as this is filled with large boulders it has not yet been possible to excavate it.
A clay-lined boiling pit was identified containing several smooth rounded pebbles. Several sherds of native medieval galena green-glazed pottery were found on the cobbled floor, along with a strap-end which still has fragments of leather surviving in it.
