SHARE Although studying creativity is considered a legitimate scientific discipline nowadays, it is still a very young one. In the early s, a psychologist named J. Guilford was one of the first academic researchers who dared to conduct a study of creativity. He challenged research subjects to connect all nine dots using just four straight lines without lifting their pencils from the page. Today many people are familiar with this puzzle and its solution. In the s, however, very few were even aware of its existence, even though it had been around for almost a century. If you have tried solving this puzzle, you can confirm that your first attempts usually involve sketching lines inside the imaginary square. The correct solution, however, requires you to draw lines that extend beyond the area defined by the dots.

I may well have. How about the best reggae band in all of California? In all the USA? Okay, there’s no denying I overstepped with that last one, but make no mistake- these guys are bloody damn good. They play like peak-era Roots Radics or Soul Syndicate and sing like an Americanized version of the sweetest Jamaican harmony group you’d care to name. Their two albums of original material, which should be on every respectable reggae lover’s shelf, are thought-provoking, hip-swaying stuff that never gets stale, and their now-twofold output of reggae and rocksteady cover versions shows just how well they’ve learned from, and yes, expanded upon, the sound of the masters that influenced them.
Even before I spun the disc I was impressed by how much the chosen tunes inspired by access to the unbelievably extensive record collection of L. Instead, The Expanders cut deep into songs that bespeak the very essence of what defines reggae from cultural, spiritual, historical and celebratory angles.

This is just one of many nice touches that makes Zanzibar a winner. Jugglerz taps several prominent artists from Europe and Jamaica for Zanzibar and none disappoint. His song, Please, is beautifully written, delivered with style, and is as pleasing in its message as it is in its aesthetics. With stellar performances from underrated artists like Benjahmin and Conkarah, on top of an already star-studded lineup and superb production, Zanzibar is almost guaranteed to make some sort of noise in the weeks and months to come.
At 69 beats per minute, those kicks start to feel more like double-time quarter notes clocking in at – something similar to the four-on-the-floor pattern that is the signature of house music. If you feel Stone on that level, it can be an energetic experience fitting for a hype artist like Fantan Mojah.

The group is widely considered to be the founders of the electro-industrial subgenre. Over the course of a dozen studio albums and many live tours, Key and Ogre have been the only constant members. After the self-release of their first cassette in , Skinny Puppy soon signed to Vancouver label Nettwerk, anchoring its early roster. From their Nettwerk debut EP Remission in to their album Last Rights, Skinny Puppy developed into an influential band with a dedicated cult following, fusing elements of ambient, noise, new wave, electro and rock music and making innovative use of sampling. Over the course of several tours of North America and Europe in this period, they became known for theatrical, horror-themed live performances and videos, drawing attention to issues such as animal testing and chemical warfare.
In , Skinny Puppy left Nettwerk and long-time producer Rave, signing with American Recordings and relocating to Malibu, California, where drug problems and tension between band members plagued the recording of their next album, The Process. Ogre quit Skinny Puppy in June , and Goettel died of a heroin overdose two months later. The album was completed with Rave and released in Goettel’s memory in Key and Ogre, already active in a number of other projects, went their separate ways, reuniting for a one-off Skinny Puppy concert at the Doomsday Festival in Dresden, Germany, in Reforming Skinny Puppy in with Mark Walk, they have since released two albums on the German label Synthetic Symphony, and toured extensively.
Key was dissatisfied with the pop direction of his then-current band Images in Vogue, and began Skinny Puppy with the intention of doing something more raw and experimental. Initially Key had planned Puppy to be a side project while he continued his work in Images, however, when Images in Vogue relocated to Toronto, Key made Skinny Puppy his full time project.

From 7″ single Arch, Captain Planet: Exhibit C radio rip From untitled? From Lasers Atlantic, forthcoming Clipse feat. Popular Demand Popeye’s From Till the Casket Driops Re-Up, forthcoming I have a playlist I keep on my iPhone of all the songs that are at the top of my listening priorities but most of the time, I’ll add just one or two songs to that list every week or two if I’m lucky.
In the last two weeks though, it’s been like a deluge with quite a few things rolling through, including a few tracks that qualify as “today’s best things ever” which mostly means I put them on single-song-repeat and just gorge on them. McLean sounds like he’s 16 he was really in his early 30s with a very youthful tenor but Kipps’ words to the work to make McLean sound more worldly and this all comes together at the chorus where McLean hits that falsetto during “breaks my heart It is magcial to me – despite being a song about heartbreak, when he gets there, I feel positively euphoric.
The Montclairs song has also been in heavy rotation; it’s a monster Northern Soul classic from the late ’60s that’s the best thing in this vein I’ve heard since first discovering Bobby Reed’s “The Time Is Right For Love”. I previously wrote about the Montclairs last summer but while the sweet soul on Dreaming Out of Season is lovely, “Hey You! This has everything – great vocal performances, an irresistible uptempo track, and a general joyfulness that rings true with every snappy backbeat.
Captain Planet’s “Fumando” was, once upon a time, a track called “Boogaloo” which was and still is a favorite play-out track and, as it were, appeared in an episode of Entourage. DJs – get familiar with this. Ok, rap haters, feel free to leave now; the last four songs are all from upcoming hip-hop projects.
The multi-talented and finely tuned artist line up on the Love Jump Riddim delivers six beautiful pieces of Reggae Music that cover a wide variety of topics from love, relationships, happiness, Amsterdam Coffeeshops and of course, real reggae music! Notable review from Gav Pauze from PauzeRadio. This release does not disappoint us in any way. Their sounds compliment each other so well, Aisha giving us her sweet vocals and backing, coupled with Mr Lexx rolling out the original DJ style, this tune will bring the hairs on your arms to stand on end whilst you absorb in their message fully.

It started off with freestyling over Hip-Hop instrumentals, but Conners thought of making original beats from scratch on his Laptop. Back in London, Caynes gave Conners a programme named Fruity loops, sounds were just basic, with the help of Simma had helped him along the way. But unfortunately Simma in late got locked up for 3 years, and thats when Conners hooked up with his lil’ bro L-Man and started producing together.
Soon after Fruity Loops was history for Highest Production , they then decided to hook up with 2za from Karma recordings a friend from back in the day, who showed them that Fruity Loops wasnt the programme to use it was all about REASON, and a new way of producing with a keyboard and MPC Mean while back in Bristol, the President and the rest of Da LAbel gang were getting ready to start recording their 1st album in early

Eulogy for Sister Somayah Kambui by Dr. Jeri Rose This eulogy was written by Dr. She asked me to read this for her here today. Miriam was there to help Somayah home and they both welcomed Odetta. These great three singing women who sang for the African Nigretian people passed together. She was Herowese Moore, Sister Somayah, Queen Negus; three names because this was one intense, complicated woman of whom we can say that she has died, passed over, will never visit Africa.
Her death ends the possibility of her letting us see her do more. What she did not do, she did not get Cannabis legalized federally, but she did get to grow the plants in her yard for her own health.

Untold The Hemlock Recordings boss is finally making waves after 15 years of experimenting with production. We catch up with Jack Dunning to find out why he’s breaking through now. If you have yet to be impressed by Untold, you must not have been paying much attention to bass music in Last year’s “Yukon” was a warning shot, its fractured beats picking up where rhythmically adventurous productions like Peverelist’s “Infinity is Now” left off.
Then came this year’s “I Can’t Stop This Feeling” which sounds like grime pushed through a kaleidoscope.

He was diagnosed with lung cancer some time ago. However strangely there are some other reports online saying that it was liver cancer that he had battled against. Whatever the diagnosis, one fact remains. Night Nurse was of course his most famous outing, but classic songs like Mr. Over and over again he proved himself in a country where it is said everyone is a singer. He had the sort of vocal performance that could at a stretch give rise to the fantasy image of studio technicians prodding Isaacs awake at the end of each take, or tape editors cutting the snoring off of the mix before mastering!
Otherwise, it could have been back to the slum. Dunkley and he had originally met in around when Gregory took Errol Dunkley to see producer Rupie Edwards.
